FAQs

Our goal is offer the highest level of service to our clients by offering transparency and consistency. Below are some of the most asked questions regarding our services.

What’s the best time of year for log home care?

Spring through fall, when temperatures and weather are more predictable to meet application guidelines. Conversely, winter is a great time to address log rot replacement and interior work.

What is chinking and why is it important?

Chinking is the term used to describe a sealant applied around logs. Proper application of sealants will improve the thermal retention of your log home, provide a more-ample moisture barrier, and can even help mitigate the number of insects finding their way into your home.

What kind of warranties do you provide?

Stains and sealants often come with manufacturer warranties. LCMT will follow application guidelines to ensure these warranties are extended to your home, and if necessary, lead the process in utilizing these warranties.

What is the Log Life Care Plan?

It’s a 3-year program designed to maintain, restore, and protect your log home, ensuring longevity and aesthetic appeal.

What does the Log Life Plan Include?

Peace of mind. By signing up for the LogLife Care Plan you will receive guaranteed annual visits that include an exterior log wash and home inspection & report providing details about the status of stain & topcoat, potential rotten logs, and quality of existing chinking & caulking (if & where applicable). Additional services can be added to this program at your discretion, but at a price menu that is set for the duration of the three year plan.

How often will inspections be conducted?

One initial site visit prior to a contract to evaluate the condition of the home and subsequent annual visits in the late-winter/early-spring to collect data and provide a detailed report and develop a plan for your home's service of the same year.

Can I customize the Log Life Care Plan?

Custom care is the name of the game. Signing up for the LogLife Care Plan not only guarantees your home’s exterior receives the basic level of care every year, it also provides you with information and recommendations for your home necessary to decide what additional services you want LCMT to provide. You are also guaranteed scheduling availability for any and all recommended work.

Will I need additional work after the Log Life Care Plan ends?

Regular maintenance is the key to upholding the integrity and quality of any log home, and we will always recommend annual log washes regardless of the current performance of stain, chinking, and caulking. Additional work may also be necessary down the road, and you will always have the option to sign up for additional terms for our LogLife Care Plan.

What products do you use?

We recommend and prefer to use Sashco’s log-specific product lines, especially for caulking and chinking, but we remain flexible in product choices to meet your desires as the homeowner.

What is the benefit of a multi-year plan?

It ensures consistent care, early detection of issues, guaranteed scheduling and 10% cost savings on products used each year to maintain your home.

Are payment plans available?

Yes, we offer flexible payment options.

What should I do in between visits?

Clean gutters regularly, keep sprinklers pointed away from logs, prevent snow and ice buildup against logs with consistent snow removal, keep plants and shrubbery from reaching the walls, and maintain landscaping to prevent roof runoff from splashing against logs.

How long will the work take?

Depending on the scope and size of your home, and of course Mother Nature, annual visits may require as little as a single day or up to two weeks on site.

What does the process of log replacement look like?

We remove compromised wood with chainsaws and hand tools, treat the area with anti-fungal products, replace it with new logs or materials, then apply stain and chinking & caulking as necessary to protect the installation properly and match the home visually as best as possible. Log rot typically occurs on the exterior faces of logs, and therefore messes incurred typically do not affect home interiors.
